Mango Workshop

New Adult Language Learning Workshop Coming to Bowman Library

We are helping patrons learn a new language with a special workshop on May 23rd at 6PM at Bowman Library. The program, Mango Languages Workshop, will show attendees how to use the free Mango Languages app available in the 24/7 digital library on the library system’s website. The app has over 70 different language courses – from Arabic to Yiddish  - where you can learn online through interactive tutorials focused on culture, introductions,  lifestyle, and more.

New Program at Bowman Library to Focus on Growing a Pollinator Garden

We have a new gardening program for adults on May18th at 2PM at Bowman Library in Stephens City. The program, Native Plants: Attract Friendly Pollinators to Your Garden, is taught by Master Gardner Stacy Morgan Smith. Smith will show attendees how to grow a pollinator garden that will bring in bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators throughout the season. The adult program is free and open to the public.

We have a new program from the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives at Handley Library!

Genetic Genealogy: Understanding DNA Results will take place on May 7th at 2PM and is free and open to the public.  The seminar, presented in two parts, will provide a general introduction to DNA Genealogy and include sections on understanding mt DNA, Y-DNA, and Autosomal DNA results.  The seminar will be presented by Shannon Combs-Bennett, QG, PLCGS, an award winning author and genealogical lecturer based out of Norther Virginia.

The Mountain Music Project Film Screening and Talk is on April 25th at Bowman Library from 6:30PM-8PM.  The film follows the journey of two traditional musicians from their roots in the hills of Virginia to the mountains of rural Nepal, where they explore the extraordinary connections between Appalachian and Himalayan folk music and culture.  The screening is free and open to the public.
