Handley Regional Library invites local authors to donate a copy of their recently published work for inclusion in the Local Author Collection. This collection aims to support and promote local/self-published authors within our community. Local authors’ works will be displayed at the library in the Local Authors Collection and be made available for checkout by library users.

Donation Guidelines

  • The author must be from the library’s core service area (Frederick County, Clarke County, and the City of Winchester)
  • All donated books must be in new or like new condition and must be professionally printed and bound. Spiral-bound items, pamphlets, textbooks, and workbooks will not be considered for the collection.
  • The author represents and warrants full ownership and/or legal rights to publish all material in this book, including artwork.

Collection Guidelines

Submission to the Local Author Collection does not guarantee inclusion in the program. All materials submitted for the Local Author Collection will be treated with the same selection guidelines used for our current print collections.

Materials selected for inclusion into the collection become the property of the Handley Regional Library and are subject to the same standards and retention schedule as other library materials. Handley Regional Library reserves the right to include or exclude any title from the collection for any reason. Materials donated to the library may be removed at any time. The library will give all removed books from the Local Author Collection to the Friends of Handley Regional Library for their book sale or recycle where appropriate.  Proceeds from the book sale help support the library’s programming for children and adults.

* Items not considered appropriate for a circulating collection may be considered for the Archives collection. Contact the archivist with questions.*
