Genetic Genealogy: Understanding DNA Results Coming to Stewart Bell Jr. Archives at Handley Library

We have a new program from the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives at Handley Library!

Genetic Genealogy: Understanding DNA Results will take place on May 7th at 2PM and is free and open to the public.  The seminar, presented in two parts, will provide a general introduction to DNA Genealogy and include sections on understanding mt DNA, Y-DNA, and Autosomal DNA results.  The seminar will be presented by Shannon Combs-Bennett, QG, PLCGS, an award winning author and genealogical lecturer based out of Norther Virginia.

“More and more people are using DNA tests to discover their family heritage,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System.  “We are excited to offer the community another resource for genealogy research through our archives department at Handley Library.  If you have DNA results or wonder if the tests are worth taking, this workshop is for you.” 

About Shannon Combs-Bennett

Shannon writes and speaks on a variety of topics from DNA to methodology. Her book, Genealogy Basics in 30 Minutes, won the 2017 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award. Shannon earned a BS in Biology with an emphasis in genetics from Indiana University and is completing her MSc in Genealogic, Heraldic, and Paleographic Studies from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. She is a member of several genealogy societies and currently serves as the Southeastern Regional Director of the International Society for Family History Writers and Editors.
