About The Mountain Music Project

The Mountain Music Project’s mission is to encourage the preservation of musical traditions in rural and under-served communities throughout the world, with a special focus on mountainous regions.  Tara Linhardt is a co-host on the film and production coordinator. In addition to being an award-winning mandolin player from Virginia, winning first place at such festivals as the Mt Airy Fiddler’s Convention and the Maury River Fiddler’s convention, she also lived with Nepali families and studied in Nepal for a year and is a fluent Nepali speaker.

“Two traditional musicians from the hills of Virginia take you to the villages of rugged Nepal, where you discover the amazing similarities between Appalachian and Himalayan folk music—and the eerily parallel heritage that gave birth to them both. This vivid portrayal of endangered music and culture celebrates remarkable instruments, foot-tapping sounds, and the people who create them.”
