How Does Your Garden Grow Storytime

Storytimes are back!

The puppets have had their vacation, the librarians have made their plans, and we're super excited to share with you all of the wonderful things we've planned for our summer!

Our summer reading event this year is "It's Showtime" and we're ready for some lights, camera, ACTION! Save the date for our Rally for Reading at 11:00 AM on June 1st at the Bowman Library.

All children, teens and adults are invited to be part of logging time and books read. This is your chance to sign up and receive gifts and information from local businesses and organizations.

Come for stories, puppets, music, dancing, face painting, local authors and more!

While we get ready for the rally, we'll plant the seeds of excitement with a week of stories, songs, and activities related to gardening. Enjoy the following songs and find more books through the catalog when you type in the tag: #howdoesyourgardengrow

To get this garden party going, check out John Denver's performance of "The Garden Song" with the Muppets.

Then check out the book, "Inch by Inch: the Garden Song" by David Mallet at the library so you can sing along.

Garden Book ListsFive Carrots

(Tune: Down by the Station)
Out in the garden early in the morning,
See the little carrots all in a row.
Listen to the farmer counting all the carrots:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 -- just so.

My Garden
This is my garden (hold out palm)
I rake it with care (rake with fingers)
And then I plant flower seeds in there
(Pretend to plant.)
The sun will shine (circle arms over head)
And the rain will fall (wiggle fingers down)
And my garden will blossom (cup hands)
And grow straight and tall (Stretch hands up)

Little Seed in the Ground
Little seed in the ground
(crouch down on the floor)

Sitting so still (stay crouching)
Little seed, will you sprout?
Yes, I will! (jump up!)

White Coral Bells (Round)
White coral bells upon a slender stalk
Lilies of the valley line my garden walk.
Oh, don't you wish that you could hear them ring?
That will happen only when the fairies sing.

Oats, Peas, Beans, and Barley Grow
Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Oats, peas, beans, and barley grow,
Can you or I or anyone know
How oats, peas, beans, and barley grow?

First the farmer sows his seed,
Stands erect and takes his ease,
He stamps his foot and claps his hands,
And turns around to view his lands.

Verses continue:
Next the farmer waters the seed…
Next the farmer hoes the weeds…
Last the farmer harvests his seed…
