Our teen book spotlight this week is focused on books that feature Jewish characters!  Many times, Jewish characters seem limited to just World War II fiction books but that is not the case and we are taking a look at some titles that are anything but that time period.  We have a mix of historical and realistic (and some are a little intense--just be warned!) fiction this week and I can promise you that they are amazing!!!  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag

The Virginia Department of Historic Resources has approved a historic marker for the site of the former home of African American scientist and Winchester native Dr. Madison Spencer Briscoe.

Early this year, a committee, assisted by the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives, began to assemble an application packet and supporting documents. With assistance from the City of Winchester and the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society the application was successful. The text of the marker will read as follows:

It's a wonderful time of year to learn about all the many holidays celebrated in our country. Head to the HRLS storytimes this week for some wonderful stories and songs. Hello!

My name is Shelby and I recently started working at the Handley Library. So far, my time here has been fantastic! I have enjoyed getting to know fellow staff members and the many wonderful patrons that use our library. As a kid, going to the library with my family was one of my favorite activities, so being able to work here has been a joy.

Our library patrons give us reason to give thanks every day!  This week we'll be reading books about Thanksgiving and all the many things we're thankful for. 

Don't forget, we will be closed on November 25 and 26 in observance of Thanksgiving, so head over and stock up on your books, movies, and media before 5pm on Wednesday! While you're there, type into the search bar above, #givingthanks, for some great books about Thanksgiving to take home. 

Handley Regional Library System will be presenting several programs for adults, kids, teens, and families for the month of December to reflect the holiday season.
