Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Once every four years in February, we LEAP into an extra day! This week at HRLS Storytimes, come hear some books that will get you ready for some jumping, hopping, and leaping through the calendar. 

Big construction machines are a fascination for most young children and we'll indulge and encourage this love all week at Handley Regional Library Storytimes! Head over to one of our three locations for a storytime event and pick up some great construction books while you're there.

Say CHEEEEEESE! This week the storytimes at HRLS will discuss all things teeth! We'll look at everything from dentists to brushing, and even those wobbly loose teeth.

February means Valentine’s Day, so we’re showing our love by celebrating our wonderful collection of easy readers! We have all of your favorite series, from Pete the Cat to Elephant and Piggie. We also have several collections of easy readers that we are sure you’ll enjoy.

Every year the American Library Association (ALA) chooses the best children's books of the year and it is time to find out the winners for 2020!  This year it is happening on Monday, January 27^th at 8:00am.  We are especially excited to find out the winners of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Geisel awards!

The Caldecott Award celebrates the best illustrations in a children’s book while the Newbery Award focuses on the best novel and literature for children.  One of the newer awards, the Geisel Award, is given to the best book for beginning readers.

Great news - we are contiuing the successful Girls Who Code club at Handley Library. This is a free program where girls can learn and apply coding techniques and programs as part of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) based learning. The program happens every Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM starting February 6^th and is designed for girls ages 8-12. Registration is required at www.handleyregional.org/kids.

This week at storytime at the Handley Regional Library System we'll celebrate winter wildlife! Come enjoy some great stories and songs this week at any of our three library branches.

Not many things chase the chill away as wonderfully as baking, and one of the most wonderfully accessible things to bake with kids are cookies! Of course, the best part of baking cookies is the eating of the cookies! We'll be exploring some chaotic cookie shenanigans all week at our Handley Regional Library storytimes. 

 Six Great Reasons to Try Yoga!

The Handley Library has added a new program, Storytime Yoga, to its Youth Services schedule. Bring the entire family for movement and stretching exercises that correspond to a story. The program is led by a certified yoga instructor who has lots of experience working with all ages and mobility needs. If your family is new to yoga, here are a few great reasons to try our Storytime Yoga:

1. Yoga improves coordination 

When the weather is cold outside it's the perfect opportunity to snuggle up with a book! We'll be highlighting some cozy books this week at storytimes at Handley Regional Library so head over for some heartwarming winter books, songs, and more. 

Celebrate Old Town Holly Jolly at Handley Library!

We have Christmas movies and crafts during Old Town Holly Jolly at Handley Library on December 14^th.  The program for kids and families is from 1PM-3PM and is free and open to the public.

At the end of the season the staff (and puppets!) take a brief break from storytimes as we prepare for the next exciting set of storytime themes. Meanwhile, we welcome all of our pint sized patrons and parents to keep heading over to the library each week to enjoy some informal play times with blocks and other activities! While you're there, the library staff will be present to help you select some great books to take home.
