Children Book Award Season is Here!!
Every year the American Library Association (ALA) chooses the best children's books of the year and it is time to find out the winners for 2020! This year it is happening on Monday, January 27th at 8:00am. We are especially excited to find out the winners of the Caldecott, Newbery, and Geisel awards!
The Caldecott Award celebrates the best illustrations in a children’s book while the Newbery Award focuses on the best novel and literature for children. One of the newer awards, the Geisel Award, is given to the best book for beginning readers.
Girls Who Code Club Winter/Spring Dates Announced at Handley Library
Great news - we are contiuing the successful Girls Who Code club at Handley Library. This is a free program where girls can learn and apply coding techniques and programs as part of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) based learning. The program happens every Thursday afternoon at 4:30PM starting February 6th and is designed for girls ages 8-12. Registration is required at www.handleyregional.org/kids.

The Handley Library has added a new program, Storytime Yoga, to its Youth Services schedule. Bring the entire family for movement and stretching exercises that correspond to a story. The program is led by a certified yoga instructor who has lots of experience working with all ages and mobility needs. We have Christmas movies and crafts during Old Town Holly Jolly at Handley Library on December 14th. The program for kids and families is from 1PM-3PM and is free and open to the public.
It's Time for Playtimes!
At the end of the season the staff (and puppets!) take a brief break from storytimes as we prepare for the next exciting set of storytime themes. Meanwhile, we welcome all of our pint sized patrons and parents to keep heading over to the library each week to enjoy some informal play times with blocks and other activities! While you're there, the library staff will be present to help you select some great books to take home.
