The Friends of Handley Regional Library System has partnered with a new non-profit organization called MoveMentation to offer tai chi classes at our libraries. MoveMentation was started by Adrian VanKeuren of Tai Chi Healing Energies. Tai Chi, at its core, is a movement medicine. Originally a martial art originating in China, tai chi combines slow, continuous, mindful movements with deep breathing. Posture and balance are emphasized in tai chi, as are uniting the entire body in working together to support each movement made. The physical movements are low-impact and can be done standing, seated, or modified to meet each individual practitioner at their current mobility/fitness level; because of this, tai chi is a particularly gentle exercise suitable for everyone, no matter their current level of fitness and mobility.
