Dr. Karen Huff to Discuss Children’s Literature at Friends of Handley Regional Library System Annual Meeting

The Friends of Handley Regional Library System will hold their annual meeting on May 19th from 7:00PM-8:30PM online through Zoom.  The meeting is open to the public where the Friends will formally announce the slate of officers for the upcoming year where members of the Friends can vote during the session.  After voting, Dr. Karen Huff, from Shenandoah University, will give a presentation titled, Shenandoah University's Children's Literature Conference:  Continuing the Legacy of Nancy Larrick Crosby.  Crosby, a Winchester native born in 1910, was a Professor of Education at Lehigh University, an advocate of children's literature, a retired public-school teacher, and a major benefactor to the Children's Department at Handley Library.

The public can register for the session at https://www.handleyregional.org/annual-meeting

The Friends of Handley Regional Library System is 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, supporting programs, services, and funding initiatives at all 3 library locations through book sales, volunteers, and annual programs including author talks, movies, musical performances, and more.  The organization is led by Barbara Dickinson, Executive Director, a dedicated community-based volunteer board, and 450 members who support the group through membership dues, financial donations, and volunteering.  Their next community used book sale that will raise funds for the system will be May 17-22 at Bowman Library.

“We are delighted to hold our annual meeting virtually and continue with the focus of supporting Handley Regional Library System in all environments,” says Barbara Dickinson, Executive Director of the Handley Regional Library System.  “I invite the community to attend Dr. Huff’s session to learn about the Children's Literature Conference and current trends in children's literature.”

“The Friends have done a fantastic job supporting the library system during the pandemic,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System.  “Their creative ability to deliver engaging virtual programs and used book sales that are CDC compliant continue to show their dedication to the community and literacy.”
