Important Announcement: Bowman Library Renovations

Bowman Library will be installing new carpeting from January 12–23. During this time, some services will be limited:

  • Printing will be limited
  • Only laptop computers will be available
  • Study rooms will be unavailable
  • Access to many adult materials will be limited
  • Faxing and scanning will be unavailable

These services will still be available at both Handley Library and Clarke County branches.

After a brief business meeting where the Friends of Handley Regional Library System announce their slate of officers for the upcoming year, Dr. Karen Huff from Shenandoah University will give a virtual presentation titled, Shenandoah University's Children's Literature Conference:  Continuing the Legacy of Nancy Larrick Crosby.

Dr. Karen Huff, Director of Children’s Literature Program and Professor of Curriculum and Instruction will give a talk through the magic of Zoom.Dr. Karen Huff is the coordinator of the elementary education program at Shenandoah University. For over 30 years, Dr. Huff has directed the Children’s Literature Conference at Shenandoah University. An annual summer conference that strives to share with teachers and librarians the best that literature has to offer.

Nancy Larrick Crosby, a Winchester native born in 1910, was a Professor of Education at Lehigh University, an advocate of children's literature, a retired public school teacher, and a 1925 graduate of Handley High School. She was a major benefactor to the Children's Department in the Handley Library branch.
