This week at storytime at the Handley Regional Library System we'll celebrate winter wildlife! Come enjoy some great stories and songs this week at any of our three library branches.

Not many things chase the chill away as wonderfully as baking, and one of the most wonderfully accessible things to bake with kids are cookies! Of course, the best part of baking cookies is the eating of the cookies! We'll be exploring some chaotic cookie shenanigans all week at our Handley Regional Library storytimes. 

 Six Great Reasons to Try Yoga!

The Handley Library has added a new program, Storytime Yoga, to its Youth Services schedule. Bring the entire family for movement and stretching exercises that correspond to a story. The program is led by a certified yoga instructor who has lots of experience working with all ages and mobility needs. If your family is new to yoga, here are a few great reasons to try our Storytime Yoga:

1. Yoga improves coordination 

When the weather is cold outside it's the perfect opportunity to snuggle up with a book! We'll be highlighting some cozy books this week at storytimes at Handley Regional Library so head over for some heartwarming winter books, songs, and more. 

Celebrate Old Town Holly Jolly at Handley Library!

We have Christmas movies and crafts during Old Town Holly Jolly at Handley Library on December 14^th.  The program for kids and families is from 1PM-3PM and is free and open to the public.

At the end of the season the staff (and puppets!) take a brief break from storytimes as we prepare for the next exciting set of storytime themes. Meanwhile, we welcome all of our pint sized patrons and parents to keep heading over to the library each week to enjoy some informal play times with blocks and other activities! While you're there, the library staff will be present to help you select some great books to take home. 

With the holidays approaching and whispers of snow in the air, make sure that everyone has something to read. The Handley Regional Library System has many eBooks available for children and teens when you cannot make it to the library. All you need is your library card and your PIN to access most eBooks through the library website or library apps such as Libby from Overdrive. Don’t remember your PIN?

This week at HRLS storytimes, all branches will be celebrating some holiday cheer

 full of music and celebration! 

At Handley Regional Library System, we want to say “Thank you!” to all of our wonderful patrons of all sizes. You give us reason to give thanks every day.  In that spirit of gratitude, we will share some of our favorite books about gratitude and thankfulness this week.

Last weekend the movie, "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" opened in theaters, starring Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers. The release of the movie brings back wonderful memories of watching Mister Rogers as he explored many places in his neighborhood, including trips to the local public library.

We had so much fun with our canine friends a few weeks ago with the theme Puppy Parade, and now we get to show some love on the felines in our lives! Whether you are a cat fan or not, everyone can appreciate a great cat tale! Head over to storytimes this week for some wonderful books about kitty cats, along with songs, rhymes, and more! 

It's time to party! Our storytime theme for the week is Fiesta and we'll have music, rhymes, and stories about celebrations, including Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico to honor our loved ones who have gone on before us.

Lights have played an important role in celebrations for many cultures throughout history. This weekend the Bowman Library will be highlighting the Diwali Festival of Lights at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26^th.

On Saturday, October 26th at 2:00 PM, the Handley Library will host the Festival of Magic Show featuring many magical appearances and fun for all ages. To prepare for the spellbinding show, here are five facts about magic to enjoy.
