The count down to summer reading has begun!

This week Ms. Donna is sharing her favorite dog books!

Summer is approaching quickly, and soon we will be ready to jump into Handley Regional Library System's Summer Reading Challenge! Keep your eyes open for an exciting new way to participate, read, and earn prizes, all while keeping the health and safety of our patrons a priority. 

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage month!!  The Handley Regional Library Youth Services Department is celebrating this month by sharing a list of titles that are either written by an individual or featuring a character of Asian Pacific American Heritage.  More titles and authors can be found by searching the library catalog using the search term #youthasianpacific. 

Children’s Book Week is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading.

Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes—wherever young readers and books connect! Children’s Book Week is not only a celebration of books, but of connection.

The Star Wars celebration of May the Fourth is our inspiration for this week's Storytime book selections! We'll be traveling to outer space, both through books and during our online Storytime with Puppets, which you can watch LIVE at Facebook.com/HandleyRegional at 11:00 AM this Wednesday, May 6th. Ms.

As we celebrate the upcoming Star Wars holiday of May the Fourth, we are sharing some books that take place in outer space for middle grade readers!  Some of these books take place in the galaxy we know while others are in a galaxy far, far away.  The titles featured below can be found on Hoopla or Libby either as an audiobook, eBook, or both.  To find more titles, please search the Handley Regional Library System catalog using the search term #youthspacefiction--many of these titles can be found on Libby and/or

A few times each year the HRLS Youth Services takes a "Storytime Break" so your storytime presenters can take time to plan for the next season. During this time we sometimes offer something different, like play-times.

With our April showers, we're looking forward to some May flowers. But why wait on flowers to enjoy the many joys of the outdoors through some puddle play?

In honor of April being National Poetry Month, we are featuring some novels in verse for middle grade readers!  Novels in verse are stories that are uniquely told through a series of poems instead of paragraphs.

Ribbit! Hop, hop, hop! Frogs and Polliwogs are the theme this week, and they're a great one to inspire a bit of indoor exercise as we jump and frog-hop at home. Thanks to the many digital resources available, we have great suggestions to inspire some frog-tastic fun with eBooks and more!

Your child may need to physically stay at home, but why not send their minds on an adventure? The Handley Regional Library System is now offering Hoopla Digital, free with your library card! Hoopla offers on-demand resources of over 300,000 movies, e-books, audiobooks, music, and more!

Home all day self-isolating can be a challenge, and missing your regular activities with library storytimes doesn't help. The Handley Library System's Youth Department is committed to helping our young patrons make this as enjoyable as possible and this week's storytime is perfect for some at-home enjoyment!

The youth library staff here at Handley Regional Library really misses all of our young patrons during this temporary closing. For this reason, we've been working to bring you content to enjoy at home. 

TumbleBooks, a world leader in online children’s book databases, announced today it will make its family of online libraries available for free to all public libraries until at least August 31.
