Ms. Donna's Space Storytime Picks!

Ms Donna Space BooklistsThe Star Wars celebration of May the Fourth is our inspiration for this week's Storytime book selections! We'll be traveling to outer space, both through books and during our online Storytime with Puppets, which you can watch LIVE at Facebook.com/HandleyRegional at 11:00 AM this Wednesday, May 6th. Ms. Donna will read a couple of books, including Hush, Little Alien by Daniel Kirk, and we may even have a Wookie crash the party!

If you are participating in our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, the books read on our online storytimes COUNT! You can head over to our new and increasing YouTube Playlist to find more. If you haven't signed up for this exciting reading program yet, you can start anytime by going to Beanstack and creating an account, or using an existing account from a previous winter or summer reading program. Feeling tech savvy? Download the app for Apple HERE and for Android HERE and you can digitally track all of the books you read.

We have several digital resources to recommend this week, beginning with Hoopla. Log in and find the books, Space Mice: Journy to Mars by Patrick Healey, Interstellar Cinderella by Deborah Underwhood, A is for Astronaut by Clayton Anderson, and a virtual board book for the little ones in either English or Spanish of Baby Loves Aerospace Engineering by Ruth Spiro.

In the Movies section, Hoopla has video version of Edward Marshall's Space Case, as well as The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Space! And don't miss checking out our favorite music artist, The Laurie Berkner Band's Rocketship Run.

On Tumbe Book Library you can learn about the Faces of the Moon with a video book read to you. They have several space books and videos available, all free, by searching the topic, "Space".

Finally, head over to Libby by Overdrive for several titles you can check out, including I Like Stars by Margaret Wise Brown, Planet Kindergarten by Sue Ganz-Schmitt, and Can You Spot a Jedi by Shari Last.

Finally, enjoy a few finger plays and songs to celebrate space this week, and May the Fourth be with you!

Climb aboard the Spaceship!

Sung to: "Itsy Bitsy Spider"
Climb aboard the spaceship,
We're going to the moon.
Hurry and get ready,
We're going to blast off soon.
Put on your helmets
And buckle up real tight.
Here comes the countdown,
Let's count with all our might.

Astronaut Poem

Five brave astronauts floated into space.
The first one disappeared without a trace.
The second one somersaulted past the moon.
The third one entered the atmosphere too soon.
The fourth one took off counting ten to zero.
And the fifth one landed safely like a hero

We're Flying

Sung to: "The Farmer in the Dell"
We're flying to the moon
We're flying to the moon.
Blast off, away we go
We're flying to the moon.

Other verses:
We're going in a spacecraft
We're walking out in space
We're landing on the moon
We're collecting moon rocks
We're flying back to Earth
We're landing on the Earth
