Scope and Content: This collection is comprised of an account book kept by James Carr Baker from his law practice in Winchester, VA, USA. The account book lists his clients by name along with their accounts for the legal services Baker provided. Also included are Memoirs of Susan E. Baker and James Carr Baker upon their deaths.

Biographical/Historical: James Carr Baker was born in 1811. He lived on Greenwood farm, Opequon, VA with his wife, Susan E. Glass, and their four children. He had a law practice in Winchester, VA and was a member of the Winchester Bar Association. He was also a writer and church elder at Kent Street Presbyterian Church in Winchester. Baker died in 1888.
