SCOPE AND CONTENT: This Gibson Baker Collection contains correspondence and memorabilia from three generations of the Baker family. The Collection also includes other items related to the history of Winchester, VA, including a Russell account book and the minutes of the Grange #145 commencing with the organizational meeting on April 15, 1874 through March 2, 1878.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Gibson Baker, son of Goodwin Baker and Lucie Gibson, married Katherine E. Smith in 1925 at the home of his grandparents Josiah and Alcinda (Osborn) Baker. Goodwin was a bookkeeper at the Shenandoah Valley National Bank and Lucie was the daughter of Confederate officer Captain Bruce Gibson (1830-1901), who served in the 6th VA Cavalry.
