We have so many wonderful books on turkeys and their place in the Thanksgiving holiday. You can see a few of our favorites when you go to our #turkeytrouble tag. You’ll find books such as:

Run, Turkey, Run by Diane Mayr - With Thanksgiving only one day away, can Turkey find a place to hide from the farmer who's looking for a plump bird for his family feast? Maybe he can hide with the pigs...or the ducks...or the horses.
This twist on the traditional Thanksgiving feast features a hilarious surprise ending.

Gracias, the Thanksgiving Turkey by Joy Cowley - In this warm holiday story, a young Puerto Rican boy saves the life of his pet turkey with help from his close-knit New York City family and neighborhood. Beginning Spanish vocabulary is woven into the text.

10 Turkeys in the Road by Brenda Reeves Sturgis - Ten turkeys in the road are circus performers practicing their show. As a farmer in his pickup truck tries to pass them, he grows more and more frustrated. The turkeys fly away one at a time, but in the end, the clever turkeys get exactly what they were after all along: stealing the farmer's truck!

This Is the Turkey by Abby Levine - Max is excited about the big turkey he has picked out for his family's Thanksgiving dinner. He and his sister help prepare the fixings, and soon his friends and relatives bring their own dishes and merriment.
At last, it's time to bring in Max's turkey. But watch out! Mom steps on a toy car and the turkey goes flying, landing in the fishtank! How can there be Thanksgiving without a turkey?

Over the River: A Turkey’s Tale by Derek Anderson - You can add a musical option to your storytime this week with this book. Over the river Mama, Papa, and Baby Turkey embark for their vegetarian Thanksgiving Feast. But when a hungry boy and his dog start sniffing around, the turkeys have got to think fast before they become the main course!

Thanks for Thanksgiving by Julie Markes - No turkey trouble in this one, just a wonderful addition to the season. Everyone knows that Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks—the question is, where to begin? From the turkey on the table to warm, cozy cuddles, life is full of small things and bigger pleasures. But what's most important is being able to share them with family.

Below you will find some songs to share this week, including an activity page where you can color some turkey feathers, then attach them to your turkey. Learn the colors with the help of this turkey song:

Turkey Wore His Rainbow Feathers - Download your activity page here!
(Tune of “Mary Wore Her Red Dress”)

Turkey wore his red feather, red feather, red feather.
Turkey wore his red feather all day long.

(Continue adding color feathers and singing)

Last Verse:
Turkey wore his rainbow feathers, rainbow feathers, rainbow feathers.
Turkey wore his rainbow feathers all day long

Three Turkey Gobblers
The night before Thanksgiving,
When I had gone to bed,
I heard 3 turkey gobblers,
And this is what they said:
The first turkey said, “I think I’d better go,
And hide behind the haystack,
Where no one will know.”
The second turkey said, “I think I’ll find a tree,
And hide high in the branches,
Where no one will see.”
The third turkey said, “I think it would be fun,
To hide the farmer’s hatchet,
And run, run, run!”
And then on Thanksgiving morning when the farmer came around,
Those three turkey gobblers could not be found.

Turkey and Stuffing
(Tune: Where is Thumbkin)
Turkey and stuffing,
Turkey and Stuffing,
Pumpkin pie.
Ten feet high!
We were so much thinner,
Before we ate our dinner.
Me-oh-my!
Me-oh-my!

If You’re Thankful and You Know It
(Tune: If you’re Happy and You Know It)
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands.
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands.
If you’re thankful and you know it, then your face will surely show it.
If you’re thankful and you know it, clap your hands.
Continue verse with …stomp your feet. …shout “I am!” ……..Do all three!
