The Stewart Bell Jr. Archives & Research Appointments

Lorna Loring

Archives Associate

The Reading Room of the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives is reopen to researchers. For the safety of staff and researchers, and to protect our collections, we have had to make some changes to our procedures. Researchers will now need to make appointments to do research in the Archives. Currently, researchers are limited to a one hour research appointment per day. Research appointment times are as follows:

Monday to Thursday: 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM, 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM, 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM, 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Friday: 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM,  11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 1:15 PM to 2:15 PM, 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, 3:45 PM to 4:45 PM

Saturday: 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM, 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, 12:45 PM to 1:45 PM

Researchers should submit appointment requests by calling (540) 662-9041, ext. 17 or by filling out and submitting the webform. Once your research request is received and reviewed, a staff member will contact you to arrange an appointment.

To mitigate the spread of COVID-19 we are limiting the number of researchers in the Reading Room to four and asking all researchers to wear masks, practice social distancing, and to bring their own equipment such as pencils, papers, and laptops. The microfiche readers, computers, and copiers will be available and cleaned between uses but we highly recommend researchers use cameras or phones to make copies of materials to limit use of the copier.

More information about our reopening plan and procedures is available on our Plan your Visit webpage.

Archives staff will continue to offer research assistance remotely for anyone who cannot visit the Archives. For more information about our services please contact us by telephone at (540) 662-9041, ext. 17 or by emailing archives@handleyregional.org.
