Library Card Sign Up Month Includes Many Great Activities at All Branches

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month nationwide, and Handley Regional Library System will be celebrating all month long. Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card.

"We want everyone in the community to enjoy the benefits of having a library card," said John Huddy, Handley Regional Library System Director. "Children as young as 5 can get a card, and we love to tout all of Handley Regional Library System's offerings to patrons of all ages: access to three convenient locations, programs for kids, teens, families, and adults that will both entertain and educate, tons of community resources like help finding a job, print from home abilities, a digital library that is practically endless, use of our computers and WIFI, and on and on.

The theme for this year’s Library Card Sign-Up Month is “Be a Super Hero and Get Your Own Library Card”. Month-long events include library card sign-up prizes, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Graduation on September 11 at 11:00 AM at Bowman Library, Super Hero Storytime at all branches, and a Teen Graphics Novel Club on September 16 at 5:30 PM at the Handley Library Branch. Adults can enjoy programs such as Third Thursday, Exploring the Outdoors, which will be held virtually on September 16 at 6:30 PM.

For information on these programs and a complete listing of all September events, visit the Library’s calendar at www.handleyregional.org. There are fun and educational events planned for all ages throughout the month at Bowman Library, Clarke County Library, and Handley Library branches.
