Rally for Reading: Celebrate Summer with Color at Your Library

Handley Regional Library System invites families, children, teens, and adults to jump into a fun-filled summer of reading, creativity, and community with Rally for Reading events at all three library branches. These colorful celebrations mark the official launch of the 2025 Summer Reading Program, Color Our World, which runs from June 1 through July 31. Each Rally for Reading event is free and open to the public, with hands-on activities, entertainment, and information on how to earn prizes through reading all summer long.

Handley Library – Saturday, May 24 | 11AM–1PM Celebrate the start of summer reading in the Mike Foreman Rotary Reading Garden! Visitors can enjoy live music from the Davis Bradley Duo, explore the “Color Our World” theme with crafts at both the Adult and Kid Booths, and discover how every page read brings them closer to fun incentives.

Bowman Library – Saturday, May 31 | 10AM–1PM Rally for Reading continues in Stephens City with colorful crafts for all ages, vibrant activities, and a thrilling Color Run at 1:00 PM. This high-energy event is perfect for kids, teens, and families looking to kick off summer in a burst of color and excitement.

Clarke County Library – Saturday, June 7 | 1PM–4PM (Color Party at 4PM) The fun wraps up in Berryville with activity stations throughout the library, including crafts, coloring, and face painting—followed by a can’t-miss Color Party in the Park at 4PM. Participants will toss non-toxic colored powder in a joyful outdoor celebration. Old clothes or white t-shirts are recommended for maximum fun!

“Our Summer Reading Program is more than just books—it's about making memories, exploring creativity, and connecting our community,” says Library Director John Huddy. “We can’t wait to see our library friends and families at these events and all summer long.”

All ages are welcome to participate in the Color Our World Summer Reading Program, which rewards reading with virtual tickets and prizes. Registration opens soon here.
