Now for Adults - Graphic Novels
We are excited to announce the expansion of our book collection for adults with the addition of graphic novels. Similar to comic books, graphic novels use sequential art to tell the story, but with often more complex plots ranging in genre from fiction and non-fiction, to history and fantasy design for adults. The new books are physically available at Bowman Library and Handley Library, but are available for borrowing at all three branches when patrons reserve a specific title to be placed on hold and delivered to the branch of their choice.
Little Noon Music Series Opens with Classical Guitarist John Arnold at Handley Library
We are excited to announce the beginning of the ever popular Little Noon Music, a free music series featuring a variety of genres. John Arnold will open the 2019-2020 series at Handley Library on November 8th at 12:15PM. The performance, free and open to the public, will feature classical guitar music. The performance is sponsored by the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System.

Fiesta Storytime!
It's time to party! Our storytime theme for the week is Fiesta and we'll have music, rhymes, and stories about celebrations, including Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead. Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico to honor our loved ones who have gone on before us.
Horror Films for Halloween
October is that time of year where I find myself watching mostly horror movies. While I never used to consider myself a horror fan, over the years I’ve discovered there are many different types of horror films. Not all horror movies have to be just frightening or disturbing. Some can be rather fun and entertaining. With Autumn officially here and Halloween not too far off, it’s a great time to delve into our horror film catalog.
Day of the Dead Latin Celebration for Kids and Families at Bowman Library
Bowman Library is hosting El Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 2nd at 11AM. Kids and their families can honor their families during this program, or learn it about it for the first time, while they make colorful decorations, break a piñata, enjoy Hispanic foods, dance to Mariachi music, hear stories, and meet the puppets. The library also has a special, colorful exhibit featuring this program. Materials around this topic are also displayed and available for check out.
Free After Hours Event for Teens: Night of the Nerfs and Undead
Zombies have invaded the library and only you can stop them before terror breaks loose!
Handley Library is hosting Night of the Nerfs and the Undead on November 1st at 6PM-10PM. This free event for teens will feature a battle with Nerf guns throughout the library after it is closed. Participants need to register online at www.handleyregional.org/teens and bring their own Nerf supplies.
Festival of Magic Show Comes to Handley Library
Handley Library will have the Festival of Magic Show on October 26th at 2PM in the Robinson Auditorium. Kids and families will enjoy an interactive showcase of magic and tricks from numerous magicians. The program is free and open to the public.

Bowman Library to Celebrate Diwali Festival of Lights
We will celebrate Diwali and the Festival of Lights during a program for kids and families on October 26th at 11AM at Bowman Library. The whole family can enjoy stories, songs, food, decorations and dance while exploring the Indian holiday. The free program also features the youth puppeteer troupe. The activities support early literacy skill development. This family event is developed and shared to foster a love of books, libraries and reading.

Festival of Lights Storytime
Lights have played an important role in celebrations for many cultures throughout history. This weekend the Bowman Library will be highlighting the Diwali Festival of Lights at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26th.

Learn to Decorate and Organize with Small Space Living Series at Handley Library
We have a new series designed just for adults called Small Space Living. Free and open to the public, the first workshop is called Small Space Living Series: Organization, and is led by Chuck Lehrer from ClutterTroopers. This workshop is geared toward young adults who live in a small apartment or share a space with roommates, or for older individuals who are downsizing to a smaller living space than they are accustomed to. This program is at Handley Library on October 24th 6:30PM.
