Each Grab and Grow Kit is a comprehensive collection of activities and hands-on tools that aim to cultivate childhood development, school readiness, and life skills in a greater effort to support grade-level reading ability by the 3rd grade.
The categories of Grab and Grow Kits include:
1. Every Child Ready to Read: the five early literacy practices as advised by the American Library Association- talking, singing, reading, writing, playing.
2. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten: encourages reading and participation in the library’s reading program to read 1,000 books before starting kindergarten with popular topics.
3. My First Experiences: supporting new and transitional milestones and life skill-building.
Contents vary by kit. A kit typically includes:
- 3-4 books
- Educational learning toys and manipulatives with necessary charging devices
- Activity sheet
Borrowing Guidelines
- 3 week borrowing
- Kits may be checked out to patrons aged 18 and older who are residents of Winchester, Frederick or Clarke Counties, non-resident local workers, non-resident staff, and non-resident volunteers.
- No renewals
- $1/day overdue fees
- Kits must be returned inside to the location from which they were borrowed
- Replacement costs apply - see tag for kit's replacement cost or ask staff for the cost of individual components
- Borrowing agreement must be signed before patron can borrow a kit
