SCOPE AND CONTENT: The records in this collection contain the constitution, by-laws, history, membership directory (1991), news clippings, scrapbook (1986-87) and charter (1967) of the local chapter (Chapter 180) of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees.  There are also programs from 1997 for the Virginia Federation, 43^rd Annual Convention (including videotape) and the Virginia Federation Memorial Service.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) was founded in 1921 by fourteen Federal government retirees to improve the status of retired Federal employees, particularly in the areas of health care and retirement benefits. Originally, the organization was known as the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, but later expanded to include active federal workers.
