SCOPE AND CONTENT: The Mary Frances Ritter Miller Collection consists of a scrapbook of news articles about the “Tire Fire” of October 31, 1983, in Frederick County, Virginia. There are also loose articles that were not affixed to the scrapbook. The collection also includes five v-mail letters with envelopes, as well as other ephemera from the World War II era.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL:  Mary Frances Ritter Miller (1912-1992), known as Peggy, was born in Winchester, VA to Charles and Lucy Seekford Ritter and was married to Paul Hunter Miller in 1945. Miller, a veteran of WWII, died in 1978. The couple were survived by two daughters and a son.
