SCOPE AND CONTENT: The John Leatherman Collection contains five books belonging to the Dellinger family: two Bibles, two religious works, and one copy of The Olive Branch, written by Matthew Carey in 1814 to help unify the nation during the War of 1812. One of the Bibles and the two religious works are written in German. The English language Bible contains family records for the Wisman family in the center pages and is inscribed with the names George W(ashington) Dellinger, 1872, and L. Kirby Dellinger, 1917. The German language Bible is inscribed to W. W. Dellinger from his grandmother Katherine Dellinger, 1895.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: The books in this collection were originally owned by the Dellinger family and came into the possession of the donor, John Leatherman, through his wife Olivia.
