SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection contains news articles, photos, and other materials concerning the Dixon family: Sharon, Tom, and their daughter Kara.  There is also a folder on local history topics, which includes a finding aid from Howard University on George Cook, who was born into slavery in Winchester, VA in 1955. 

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Sharon and Tom Dixon are residents of Winchester, VA.  Tom Dixon was the varsity boys’ basketball coach at Handley High School for 27 years.  Sharon Dixon was a 2016 recipient of the Where to Invade Next Hammer & Chisel Award for her leadership in promoting Winchester’s African American history.
