Program Description

Event Details

This program is going to be an introduction to food preservation. We will learn a little history about food preservation and the science behind safe preserving. We will also discuss the 5 main ways we preserve foods today: boiling water bath canning, pressure canning, freezing, dehydrating, and fermenting. You will leave with introductory knowledge of food preservation and a few helpful handouts.

Presented by Hannah Copp, Family and Consumer Services Associate Extension Agent focusing on food, nutrition, and health, Virginia Cooperative Extension.  Hannah is a 2023 graduate of Bridgewater College where she studied Family and Consumer Sciences Education and received two concentrations: Nutritional Science and Child Development. She was raised and continues to reside in Shenandoah County. In her spare time, she likes to be outdoors, travel, read, and bake. Hannah is fairly new to food preservation, but is excited to share the content with you all and help each of you take the next step in preparing (and preserving) your own healthy foods!
