Join us as Lynn Pechuekonis, author and historian, guides us through the story of the Hill Top House Hotel in Harpers Ferry! Book sales will follow the presentation.

The Hill Top House Hotel in Harpers Ferry was for generations a beloved destination for couples and families celebrating special occasions, yet few former guests know its history—that it was founded by African-American power couple Tom and Lavinia Lovett. Now, for the first time ever, their story has been fully researched and recounted by Lynn Pechuekonis in Among the Mountains: The Lovetts and Their Hill Top House, available through the Harpers Ferry Park Association book shop

About the Author:
Lynn Pechuekonis is a historian and author residing in scenic Harpers Ferry. After a lengthy career in communications at the University of Virginia, she returned to her home state and became fascinated with the historic achievements of Black residents there. Among the Mountains: The Lovetts and Their Hill Top House is her second published biography.  Her first book, Man of Sterling Worth, explores the life of Professor William A. Saunders, the longest serving Black teacher at Storer College. She lives in the Saunders home one block away from the former college and operates a small bed and breakfast there with her husband Christian. She frequently gives talks and tours on Harpers Ferry Black heritage, covering Reconstruction through Civil Rights.
