October is TeenTober
TeenTober is a new, nationwide celebration hosted by libraries every October. It aims to celebrate teens and promote year-round teen services and literacies. Throughout the celebration, libraries highlight the innovative ways theyhelp teens learn new skills and fuel their passions in and out of the library through programs, access to books, and more. One-on-One Poetry Session with the Walking Mall Poet
You may be one of the fortunate that have seen the Walking Mall Poet, Joseph M. Jablonski, in action on the downtown Walking Mall in Winchester. He writes personalized poems on the spot with his manual typewriter. The Friends of the Handley Regional Library System is offering a ZOOM session - registration required on the library website - free and open to the public, where he will write a custom poem just for you! Red Wolf Resilience, Story of The American Red Wolf – Virtual Film Screening and Talk
Over the past year, filmmakers Justin Grubb and Alex Goetz have been working with Conservation Centers for Species Survival, the Endangered Wolf Center, US Fish and Wildlife and a host of other institutions all dedicated to saving America’s rarest mammal to create an educational film aimed at inspiring action to prevent this animal’s second extinction in the wild.
Join the virtual film screening, followed by a talk with the filmmakers, and a discussion with Dr. Nucharin Songsasen who is the Center Head of the Center for Species Survival, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute.
