Virtual Groundhog Day to Feature Real Groundhog and Puppet Show

Handley Regional Library System continues the popular Groundhog Day Celebration on February 2nd at 11AM on the library system’s Facebook and YouTube accounts @handleyregional.  The program features “Tiva”, a real groundhog from Valley Wildlife Care, a local rescue and rehabilitation organization, and an interactive puppet show with “Bowman Bill”, a special guest groundhog puppet.  Attendees will learn about the life and habitat of a groundhog, protecting wildlife, hibernation, and more.  The library fun will continue with a special Kid Crafternoons program at 2PM on Facebook.  Families can pick-up a Grab-and-Go craft kit with supplies days before the program at Handley Library.  Both programs accompany the Winter Reading Challenge for kids and teens where participants can win prizes based on books read.  More information is available at www.handleyregional.org/kids

“Groundhog Day with Handley Regional Library System is something the community looks forward to every year,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System. “Usually on this day, we offer the community a big ‘Experience Your Library Day’ at all 3 library locations packed full of programs for all ages, Digital Library demonstrations, and contests - and we see hundreds of attendees.  Since we cannot have the same experience this year, we will maintain our commitment to the community by offering this program virtually and letting people know they can still access our Digital Library for eBooks, streaming movies, research, and more.  Even as we operate with limited hours and services, we are still focused on providing critical public library services for all ages and needs.  I invite everyone to watch these programs at home and experience everything your library has to offer.”
