Teen Book Spotlight--Survival Stories!!!

Our teen book spotlight this week is on books that are all about survival!!! These survival stories will keep you on the edge of your seat as you will be along for the journey with the main characters, making decisions that will either lead to their eventual rescue or their deadly demise.  I love survival stories because it makes me wonder what would I do if I found myself in these circumstances and I am sure you will be as well.  We have a great mix of realistic as well as fantasy and even some dystopian which will leave you wondering what is going to happen next!  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #yasurvival as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new teen book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Wilder Girls by Rory Power--A mysterious disease has quarantined the students at the Raxter School for Girls. First the teachers died, then the students began to fall. Now cut off from the world, Hetty, Byatt, and Reece struggle to survive while they wait for a promised cure. Then Byatt goes missing and Hetty will do anything to find her, even brave the dangerous woods outside.

The Grace Year by Kim Liggett--Sixteen-year-old Tierney James lives in a misogynistic community in which young women are accused of possessing a magical power to seduce men through a powerful aphrodisiac they emit from their skin. They are therefore exiled out of the community for a year, called the Grace Year, to release their magic into the wild before the survivors come home to marry. Outside the compound walls are poachers who rape and kill the girls and sell their body parts for profit. Tierney is banished from the newly formed Grace Year clique of girls and falls for a young poacher whose own life is threatened. But between the compound and the hunters, the greatest danger may come from the other girls on their Grace Year.

The Speed of Falling Objects by Nancy Richardson Fischer--After an accident left her blind in one eye when she was young, sixteen-year-old Danny Warren has been struggling with her self esteem believing she could never live up to the expectations of her absentee father Cougar, the host of a survivalist television show. When Cougar asks her to join him to film an episode, their plane crashes in the Amazon and Danny discovers secrets about her father and her own inner strength to survive.

The Starlight Claim by Tim Wynne-Jones--Four months after Nate's best friend goes missing, presumed dead, near the family cabin in the Canadian wilderness, Nate makes a solo journey back into the woods to investigate what really happened. However, his family cabin is occupied by three escaped convicts. As a blizzard approaches and all cell service dies, Nate holes up in a neighboring cabin and must survive the harsh winter and violent convicts using only his wits and instincts.

When We Were Lost by Kevin Wignall--Student Tom Calloway hates his classmates and really doesn't care to learn anything, not even if it means going on a trip with some of them for a week. If his guardian hadn't been away, Tom never would have boarded the plane--which means he never would have been in the crash that killed all the teachers and most of his class, and stranded the rest of the kids in the jungle, forcing them to survive on their own. Then, one of them turns on the others.

Crossbones by Kimberly Vale--When the pirate king dies, the Bone Crown Trials, a competition to determine the next ruler of the seas, begins. Three strangers named Csilla Abado, Kane Blackwater, and Lorelei Penny soon find themselves caught up in a deadly battle for the throne. Csilla dreams of becoming the first pirate queen, Kane is looking for a chance to save his father's ship, the "Iron Jewel," and Lorelei has stowed away on the "Iron Jewel" looking for her mother's killer. But these three realize they stand a stronger chance together and form a tentative alliance.
