Teen Book Spotlight--School Stories!!!

Our teen book spotlight this week is focused on books that are all school inspired to get us into the back to school groove!  The start of a new school year is filled with all sorts of different emotions and these stories are ones that are as well but in all of them, the school plays an integral role either in the setting, developing friendships and relationships, making decisions for the future, and so much more.  Hopefully these titles will help to get the school year started off right.  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #yaschoolstories as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new teen book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Most Likely by Sarah Watson--Four childhood friends, Ava, CJ, Jordan, and Martha--one of whom is destined to become president of the United States--take on the local city council during their senior year of high school to protect a beloved city park scheduled for demolition. The girls' friendship sees them through their political fight as well as struggles with figuring out their future plans and accepting themselves, and their last year together becomes a formative year for one girl among the group.

When You Were Everything by Ashley Woodfolk--Cleo, who has been best friends with Layla since middle school, must learn to navigate high school after the traumatic break-up of their friendship. Complicating matters, she's assigned to be Layla's tutor and her parents are getting a divorce. Cleo works to open herself up to new friendships, and work through her feelings towards Layla, her parents, and a new boy she likes.

Frankly in Love by David Yoon--As the son of Korean immigrants in Southern California, Frank Li is expected to relish in the American dream but also find a nice Korean girl to marry. But instead, Frank falls for a white classmate who his parents will never approve of. He meets another Korean American, Joy Song, who is in a similar situation. They agree to be a couple in front of the parents in order for Frank and Joy to be with who they really want, but as their fake relationship takes a turn into the serious, they both must adjust to what their knowledge of love really is.

The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch--Sky Baker is openly gay, but he still tends to hide his true identity in his small hometown of Rock Ledge, Michigan. When he decides to ask his crush to prom at his high school's annual beach bum party, his world is flipped upside down after his plans are leaked by an anonymous hacker. At first, Sky is embarrassed and sure his fragile world is going to crumble to pieces, but he is surprised when his classmates band together to help unmask the identity of the hacker.

One of Us is Lying by Karen McManus--Five students are sent to after-school detention at Bayview High: Bronwyn, the brain; Addy, the beauty; Nate, the criminal; Cooper, the athlete; and Simon, the outcast. You might think this sounds like a familiar '80s movie about a club and breakfast—but in this case, Simon doesn't make it out alive. Simon, the creator of Bayview High's infamous gossip app, had promised to release juicy details about all four of his popular co-detention attendees the next day, which means all four are suspects in his murder—unless, of course, a sixth figure is using them as patsies …

Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon--It's the last day of senior year. Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been rivals throughout high school and now there's one last competition between them: who will be named valedictorian. After Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has one last chance to beat him at something: Howl, a senior class scavenger hunt that leads students all over Seattle. When Rowan learns that a group of her fellow seniors are teaming up to take down her and Neil, she agrees to team up with Neil in order to win. But as Rowan spends more time with Neil, she begins to see a different side to him--one that she might just fall in love with.
