Teen Book Spotlight--Red & Green Covers!!!

Our teen book spotlight this week is on YA books that have either red or green covers so we can start to get into that holiday spirit!!  The amazing thing about this theme is it allows for a collection of books that have nothing in common and may not have even been looked at without their cover being a specific color (so we kind of are judging a book by its cover).  We have everything this week from the first in a series to realistic, suspense, historical, and science fiction.  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #yacolorfulcovers as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new teen book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Black Hole Sun by Davic MacInnis Gill--Eking out a meager living on Mars, 16-year-old Durango has become the leader of a small band of mercenaries who carry out the dangerous jobs no one else wants. Their latest assignment is to protect a group of South Pole miners from a group of cannibals, the Draeu, hoping to get their hands on the miners' treasure. Aiding Durango in his efforts are two women: Vienne, his second-in-command whom he cares for more than he lets on, and Mimi, his former commander who is now an artificial intelligence implanted in his brain and with whom he converses in his mind.

Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody--Raised as a proper lady, Enne Salta must abandon her reputation and leave her finishing school to look for her missing mother in New Reynes--also known as the City of Sin. The only lead she has is a grifter named Levi Glaisyer who needs money to clean up an investment scam he was running. Her offer of financial help to find her mother is just what he needs. But as they search for clues, Enne becomes immersed in a foreign world of gangs, gamblers, and glamorous casinos.

Suspect Red by L.M. Elliott--In 1950s Washington, D.C., teenaged Richard, a bookworm whose father works for the FBI, experiences effects of McCarthyism, beginning with book banning and ending with a threat to his half-Czech friend.

Liar by Justine Larbalestier--When Micah – a compulsive liar who finds deception far more appealing than truth – is suspected of murdering her boyfriend, she resolves to tell her story honestly and without omission. As Micah describes the events that took place both before and after her boyfriend's murder, the supernatural and outlandish tale she pieces together combine truth and lies in such a way that readers are never sure whether Micah can be trusted.

The Body In the Woods by April Henry--While helping the Portland County Sheriff's Search and Rescue to seek a missing autistic man, teens Alexis, Nick, and Ruby find, instead, a body and join forces to find the girl's murderer, forming an unlikely friendship, as well.

After Eli by Rebecca Rupp--At 14-years-old, Daniel is still upset over his brother Eli's death in Iraq three years ago. With his home and social life in shambles, Daniel turns his focus to his so-called "Book of the Dead," which he uses to chronicle deaths he finds noteworthy. By studying the experience of dying, Daniel is able to gain additional perspective on the world of the living. He gradually begins to open up to those around him, eventually coming to terms with the past and finding a few valuable friends in the process.
