If you’ve been to the 2nd Floor of Handley Library recently, you may have noticed our new Scavenger Hunts! Every month, there will be a new themed scavenger hunt for you and your littles to find. We’ve put up ten pictures around the Kids Zone and the Middle Kingdom that correspond with the images on your scavenger hunt slip. Slips can be found in between the gaming computers in the Kids Zone. If you find six out of the ten pictures, turn your slip in for a prize! We have stamps, stickers, and temporary tattoos. This is a passive program, meaning you can participate at any time throughout the month and complete the hunt at your own pace. Our scavenger hunts are a great way to encourage kids to spend more time at the library while also teaching them to navigate the 2nd floor. If you have any questions about how the scavenger hunts work, please stop by the desk in the Kids Zone!
For March’s hunt, we’re participating in Winchester’s Find Your Revolutionary War Hero activity! We’ve put up symbols of the U.S. and the Revolutionary War, along with a hero that you can check off on your passport. If you want to learn more, check out the details here. The activity only goes through March 31st, so be sure to stop by soon!
Next month, the Scavenger Hunt will be about native flowers! Spot the hidden images while also learning what wildflowers are native to Virginia’s Appalachian region and their scientific names. Looking for more flower knowledge after finishing? Check out our Nature Backpacks, complete with a flower field guide inside. Pair it with a book from #colorourworldoutdoors!
We hope to see you stop by Handley Library to check out our Scavenger Hunt! And if you miss this month, don’t worry, there’s always next month.
