Middle Grade Book Spotlight--Graphic Novels Pt. 3!!!

Our Middle Grade book spotlight this week is focused on graphic novels!!!  Graphic novels are incredibly visual stories that can feature pretty much anything fiction and nonfiction.  Done in the style of comic books, there is a huge variety of choices; literally something for everyone so even if you have never read one before, you will definitely be able to find something.  For our talk this week, we have a great selection of nonfiction, fantasy, historical, humor, and realistic to get you started.  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #youthgreatgraphicnovels as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new Middle Grade book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Goldilocks: Wanted Dead or Alive by Chris Colfer--Outside the realm governed by the Happily Ever After Assembly, the Dwarf Forest is home to fairy tale monsters and outcasts such as Goldilocks, who's been on the run since vandalizing the Three Bears' home. When Goldilocks gets word that Prince Charming and his brothers are planning to lay siege to the forest in an attempt to get rid of them, she helps organize a revolt to protect their home.

Squidding Around: Fish Feud by Kevin Sherry--Squizzard the squid is the class clown, but when his jokes ruin a big school project, he hurts his best friend Toothy's feelings. A seahorse named Shay teaches Squizzard about how selfish he was being, and Squizzard comes up with a plan to convince Toothy to be friends with him again.

Astronuts: Mission 1 by Jon Sciezska--Experimental Animal Astronauts (AstroNuts) journey to outer space in order to find a habitable planet once Earth is completely poisoned by carbon dioxide. They come across Plant Planet only to find that the plants are sentient, and do not like the AstroNuts.

Aster and the Accidental Magic by Thom Pico--Full-color graphic novel depicting ten-year-old Aster who moves with her parents and brother to an isolated village near a mountain where she's gifted a dog named Buzz from an elderly woman and meets a series of magical creatures who inhabit the nearby forest.

Science Comics: Volcanoes by Jon Chad--In a high-tech, future world that has succumbed to extreme cold, Aurora, a young explorer, learns about the geological process deep inside the Earth that causes volcanoes to erupt. She and her team seek to find ways to use the heat of volcanoes and geothermal activity to make their lives better.
