It's Showtime at Your Library!

We're setting the stage and getting creative this week as we head into our summer reading events, starting with "It's Showtime with Art!"

You can pick up some colorful books at all three of our Handley Regional Library locations. Type in the tag: #colormyworld for some great reading suggestions for your budding artist.

(FYI - Although we're closed for Memorial Day,did you know you can check out books when we're closed? There are wonderful children eBooks and Audiobooks available with your library card through the Blue Ridge Download Consortium. Check them out! Literally!)

To be a part of our summer's greatest show on earth, register for the 2019 Summer Reading Program online, beginning on June 1st, or at any of our HRLS branches. You may also wish to download the Beanstack app for a quick and easy way to track your progress. Beginning on June 1st, start tracking, earn badges, and receive prizes!

Don't forget to attend the Rally for Reading on Saturday, June 1st at 11am at the Bowman Library. We'll have stories, puppets, music, face painting, local authors, magic and balloon bending. If you aren't signed up, it's a great place to do so and grab all the books you'll need to get started.

Through the week, stop by our storytimes at any of our three locations and enjoy some stories, music, and activities all about art.

If you'd like to explore more activities, consider stopping by the web site of Peter Reynolds, author of The Dot. He has some wonderful activities to encourage your own creativity.

I Ain't Gonna PaintSing along with the book, I Ain't Gonna Paint No More!

Here are a couple more tunes to spark your inner artist!

This is the Way We Paint!
This is the way we stir the paint,
stir the paint, stir the paint
(make stirring motions)
This is the way we stir the paint
So early in the morning.

This is the way we . . . (dip our brush, paint the paper, blow it dry, frame the picture)

Five Little Paintbrushes
Five little brushes went out to paint.
One painted white, then ran away in fright.
The second painted red and jumped under the bed.
The third painted green then fled the scene.
The fourth painted black then ran around in back.
The fifth painted yellow and felt so mellow,
He invited everyone back to begin again.
