From Hats to Boots Storytime!

Are you ready to read this week? It’s cold outside so we’re getting all bundled up from our hats to our boots!

Before you get dress and head out for some winter fun, here’s a reminder to join our Winter Reading Challenge. You have until January 31st to read, log, and win! Learn more at HandleyRegional.org/youthwinterreading

So, let’s get dressed up for some cold weather play. You can find some books with a warm winter theme when you type into the search bar: #warmandcozy. The tag will show you some warm and cozy books like these:

Under my Hood I have a Hat by Karla Kuskin. A child describes the many layers of clothing needed to brave the winter weather!

The Mitten by Jan Brett. After Nicki accidentally drops his mitten in the forest it becomes an object of curiosity for a mole, a rabbit, a badger, a tiny brown mouse, and a big brown bear, as they all crawl into it.

The Hat by Jan Brett. When Lisa hangs her woolen clothes in the sun to air them out for winter, the hedgehog, to the amusement of the other animals, ends up wearing a stocking on his head.

Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright. A snowman who finds it dreadfully cold keeps doing things that cause him to melt, while the children who rebuild him each time offer clothing to keep him warm.

Froggy Gets Dressed by Jonathan London. Rambunctious Froggy hops out into the snow for a winter frolic but is called back by his mother to put on some necessary articles of clothing.

Snowy, Blowy Winter by Bob Raczka. Illustrations and simple rhyming text portray winter activities, from snowman-building, sledding, and sitting by a fire to feeding birds.

Lost. Found. by Marsha Diane Arnold. When a bear loses his bright red scarf in the woods, it is found--and lost again--by a series of animals that use it to keep warm or to have fun, but they disagree over who really owns it and cause a problem that only the scarf's true owner can fix.

Here are some great songs to sing as you get ready to head outside to play.
