Fire Prevention Week Books

You can place any of these books on hold and head over to pick them up when they’re available. Be sure to check our online calendar as well for some virtual programs on our theme.

More information on National Fire Prevention Week with thematic activities can be found at http://nfpa.org/fpw.

Here are some songs and rhymes that will both delight and educate children about this important subject.

Down by the Fire Station (Download an Activity Sheet Here!)
Down by the fire station early in the morning
Five red firetrucks sitting in a row
Ring goes the bell and one starts its engine
Honk, honk, whee-oo, off it goes.

Down by the fire station early in the morning
Four red firetrucks sitting in a row
Ring goes the bell and one starts its engine
Honk, honk, whee-oo, off it goes.

(Repeat with three, two…)

Down by the fire station early in the morning
Five red firetrucks sitting all alone
Ring goes the bell and it starts its engine
Honk, honk, whee-oo, off it goes.

Fire Truck Song
(Sing to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a  big red fire truck, long and stout,
When I am needed, I roar and shout.
People love to see me rush about.
Just turn me on and head me out.

I’m a big red fire truck, stout and long,
Here is my ladder, tall and strong.
When I get a call, you’ll hear my song,
Just climb aboard and turn me on.

Never, Never Play With Matches
(Sing to the tune of “Frere Jaques”)

Never, never play with matches
That won’t do, that won’t do
You might burn your fingers,
You might burn your fingers,
That won’t do! That won’t do!

Firefighter Song
(Sing to the tune of “I’m A Little Teapot”)

I’m a little firefighter on the go.
Here is my helmet,
Here is my hose.
When I see a fire,
Hear me shout:
“Turn on the water
And put the fire out!”

Always Alert

I’m a smoke detector and I say “Beep!”
    (Squat down)
I’m your nose when you’re asleep.
(point to nose, then pretend to sleep)
If there’s a fire and smoke is all around,
    (wiggle fingers like flames)
I’ll wake you up with a very loud sound.
(jump up and raise your hands high)
BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Fire Safety
(Sing to the tune of “Skip to My Lou”)

I found matches, what’ll I do?
I found matches, what’ll I do?
I found matches, what’ll I do?
I’ll throw them away or give them to you.
I see a fire, what’ll I do?
I see a fire, what’ll I do?
I see a fire, what’ll I do?
I’ll get help – that’s what I’ll do!
If my clothes should catch on fire,
If my clothes should catch on fire,
If my clothes should catch on fire,
I’ll know just what to do:
Stop, drop; lay down and roll,
Stop, drop; lay down and roll,
Stop, drop; lay down and roll,
This is what we all should do.
