Database Spotlight: Universal Class
The March Database Spotlight highlights Universal Class
Universal Class offers over 500 online courses. From academic subjects to career and business courses to creative hobbies, there is something for everyone, ages teen through adult, available from Universal Class. Learn something new or update your existing skills. All courses are self-paced, so you can finish them at your convenience. Progress is assessed through assignments and exams, with feedback given. Certificates and CEUs can be earned with course completion.
Universal Class is easy to find on the Handley Regional Library System Website. From the Home Page, hover over the “Research and Learn” option on the top banner. Click on the “Lifelong Learning” option under “Discover”. Universal Class is located near the bottom of the page.
You will be prompted to register using your library card number, and then asked to make a login with a password. This will enable you to save your progress.
Select “Browse Courses” for a search bar to look for a specific topic- for example, cooking. Courses in that subject area will be shown. I might choose “Cooking and Baking 101”.
You will see an overview of the class. There are 11 lessons, 28 exams and assignments, estimated time to finish the course is 11 hours, and 1.1 CEUs are awarded upon completion. There is a video preview and a course description. You will also find an overview of the lessons in the class and learning outcomes- what skills you can expect to have learned upon completion. Scroll down further for additional class information and student testimonials.
When you join a class, it will give you the option of joining the certificate class (if you need credit) or joining the video only class (if you are just learning for fun).
