We have launched a new service designed for children under 12 called BookMatch Junior! This service is designed to help connect young readers to stories based on their current interests, genres they like, and topics they enjoy. Caregivers or young readers can answer a few quick questions online at www.handleyregional.org/bookmatchjr and library staff will personally recommend up to 3 books, eBooks, or audiobooks based on their answers and can then place materials on hold to be picked-up at any of the 3 library locations. Patrons can also inquire about the service in-person at any location.
“We are excited to offer this personalized service to kids in our community,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System. “We have creative staff who will personally research and make expert reading recommendations on materials that kids will enjoy.”
The library system launched a similar service for adults several months ago and has had great success, taking the guesswork of ‘what should I read next?’ for patrons.
“BookMatch Junior! helps patrons 12 and under foster a love and discovery for lifelong reading by encouraging them to explore new worlds and stories outside of their own,” adds Katie Moss, Youth Services Manager at Handley Library. “This service is available system-wide and we are excited to serve the community this way.”
