20 Years At Bowman Library

July 16th marks the twentieth anniversary of the opening of the Bowman Library! The library was the culmination of years of planning and work on the part of library staff, county administrators, and dedicated volunteers.

 

 

In August 1998, the Frederick County Board of Supervisors voted to fund the new library for the sum of $4 million dollars. Bowman Library’s Cornerstone set 20 years ago

How many of you have been patrons of the Handley Library long enough to remember a time before the Bowman Library branch existed? What are your memories of its building and its opening?

20 years ago, on November 4, 2000, the Winchester Hiram Lodge conducted a ceremony setting the cornerstone for the Bowman Library. The stone was taken from the Handley Library building during its 1999-2001 renovations, as a way of symbolizing the unity of the regional system.

New Walking Trail at Bowman Library!

If you have been to the Bowman Library in recent weeks you probably noticed a lot of earth moving equipment in the parking lot. Frederick County Parks and Recreation has been very busy constructing the new walking trail around Lakeside Lake and we are excited about it!


Officially named the “Bowman Lake Trail” and designed for pedestrian use, the trail is a loop, starting and ending at the Library. Camp WriMo

Welcome Middle and High School writers. Let's Camp-Out at the Library!

We celebrate July as Writing Month at Bowman Library by setting up camp, getting out the composition supplies and writing. It is a time to relax and write our best stuff yet. Short stories, novels, poems, comic strips are all welcome as we sit around camp and inspire one another.

We meet every Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. on the Reading Porch near the Teen books and anime. Camp opens on June 25 and continues through the month of July. Bring  your ideas, your first drafts, your initial attempts...
