Crafting with Flowers and Plants Garden Program Coming to Handley Library

We are excited to announce the next gardening program for adults, Let’s Use What You Grow in Your Garden: Crafting with Flowers and Plants, on August 10th at 2PM at Handley Library.

The Master Gardeners will focus on different ways to preserve flowers for crafting. Demonstrations will be presented on pressing flowers, preserving in different mediums, and air drying. A hands-on craft will utilize a variety of pressed flowers applied to a wood ornament.

Calling all teens!  We are excited to announce a special showing of  “Beetlejuice” (Rated PG) for teens in the Mike Forman Rotary Reading Garden on August 7th at 8:30PM at Handley Library.  The movie is free and open to the public. Teens are encouraged to bring snacks and blankets for the outdoor movie.

About the Movie

We are excited to announce a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) based program at Handley Library in Winchester on August 7th at 2PM called Alien Science Show. Presented by the interactive group ScienceTellers, kids and families will enjoy an action-packed alien adventure using science experiments for special effects.

Exhibit Spotlights New Collection at Stewart Bell Jr. Archives

Visitors to the Handley Library can enjoy a new exhibit put together by Archives intern Matt Geczy featuring items from the Jeannette and Robert G. Harper Family Papers. This new collection consists of personal and business papers of the Gray family of Berkeley County, West Virginia, and shows the family’s role in the history and development of Berkeley County from the late 1700s through the Civil War, when it became part of the newly formed state of West Virginia, and into the early twentieth century.

Natsu Con Japanese Anime Conference

Natsu Con is at Bowman Library on July 29th from 1PM-7PM. The teen event is sponsored by the Teen Advisory Board at Bowman Library and is free and open to the public. Focused on anime and comic characters, attendees will hear from special speakers who will focus on developing anime characters, Nick Coleman with a talk about how super heroes have issues too, an artist alley, character panels, dance presentations, cosplay contents, Japanese snacks, and more. The day ends with a drawing workshop by cartoonist Paul Merklein of Wisconsin.
