We are excited to announce the next gardening program for adults, Let’s Use What You Grow in Your Garden: Crafting with Flowers and Plants, on August 10^th at 2PM at Handley Library.

The Master Gardeners will focus on different ways to preserve flowers for crafting. Demonstrations will be presented on pressing flowers, preserving in different mediums, and air drying. A hands-on craft will utilize a variety of pressed flowers applied to a wood ornament.

Calling all teens!  We are excited to announce a special showing of  “Beetlejuice” (Rated PG) for teens in the Mike Forman Rotary Reading Garden on August 7^th at 8:30PM at Handley Library.  The movie is free and open to the public. Teens are encouraged to bring snacks and blankets for the outdoor movie.

About the Movie

The spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out.  Stars Alec Baldwin, Michael Keaton, and more.

We are excited to announce a new STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) based program at Handley Library in Winchester on August 7^th at 2PM called Alien Science Show. Presented by the interactive group ScienceTellers, kids and families will enjoy an action-packed alien adventure using science experiments for special effects.

Visitors to the Handley Library can enjoy a new exhibit put together by Archives intern Matt Geczy featuring items from the Jeannette and Robert G. Harper Family Papers. This new collection consists of personal and business papers of the Gray family of Berkeley County, West Virginia, and shows the family’s role in the history and development of Berkeley County from the late 1700s through the Civil War, when it became part of the newly formed state of West Virginia, and into the early twentieth century.

Bags 4 My Cause at MARTIN'S

It’s the giving program that makes it easy for you to support your community and a healthy environment – at the same time!

For the month of August, each time a $2.50 reusable Bags 4 My Cause Bag is purchased at the MARTIN'S located at 400 Gateway Drive, Winchester, $1 will be donated the library system.  This means more funding for programs, services, and materials at your local library. 

We have a special program reflecting on the history of John Brown’s raid at Harpers Ferry in 1859 and the impact of race relations. John Brown:  Monuments and Mythology will be on August 3^rd at 2PM at Handley Library in Winchester.

Natsu Con is at Bowman Library on July 29^th from 1PM-7PM. The teen event is sponsored by the Teen Advisory Board at Bowman Library and is free and open to the public. Focused on anime and comic characters, attendees will hear from special speakers who will focus on developing anime characters, Nick Coleman with a talk about how super heroes have issues too, an artist alley, character panels, dance presentations, cosplay contents, Japanese snacks, and more. The day ends with a drawing workshop by cartoonist Paul Merklein of Wisconsin.

Have you ever wondered what your mom looked like in high school? Are you trying to remember the name of the kid you sat next to in English? Are you curious about how fashions have changed from poodle skirts and saddle shoes to duck tails and big hair?

The Valley Assistance Network, a program of United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley, is joining forces with the Handley Regional Library System and United Bank to host a free, family fun event focused on financial education. The "Money Smart" event will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Handley Library.

July 20th marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, and we're ready to celebrate! 

Online databases are something that can easily be accessed for free with your Handley Regional Library System library card. World Book Encyclopedia's Early World of Learning is an educational resource perfect for your toddler, preschooler, or early elementary little one. This free digital database is a child’s first encyclopedia, eBook, and introduction to core early concepts.

The new logo is now one color and has the word “system” added to it to represent how the non-profit group supports the entire library system - Bowman Library, Clarke County Library, and Handley Library - through funding of materials, programs, and services for patrons.
