Posted on:
Hello Writers!

Are you interested in becoming a local author or already a local author exploring opportunities for self-publishing? Are you looking for an easy way to format and share family history, anthologies, or memoirs? The Library of Virginia has a fantastic new resource available to our library patrons: Virginia Writes.

Virginia Writes is a collaborative resource for writing, composing, styling, editing, publishing, and sharing independent author's work.

There are three main components to Virginia Writes: create publish-ready files with Pressbooks Public, share your writing to the Indie Author Project, and discover writing shared by local authors on BiblioBoard Library. All three are available through geolocation to anyone in Virginia or to anyone, anywhere who has a card from a participating library.

Read on for more details, or click here to get started.

Pressbooks Public is an intuitive online software made for creating professional quality eBooks and print-ready files (such as ePub, MOBI, and PDF formats). Over 20 free professionally designed themes are available for use. Other details like footnotes, images, front matter, back matter, table of contents and more can be added in Pressbooks without the need for graphic design experience.

Simply create your Pressbooks Public account and start writing or import your draft! (Notes: Pressbooks does not take ownership of any exported files.

Submit your writing  to the Indie Author Project where it will be showcased in the Indie Virginia Regional Collection for anyone in Virginia to access and read.

The Indie Author Project reserves the right to exclude or remove any submissions at their discretion. If you have any questions about the program or submission process, please reach out to authors@indieauthorproject.com.

Items submitted to the Indie Author Project are posted and become available for local readers to discover on Biblioboard.

The Virginia Writes resource is available in the "Resources A-Z" page on our website or you can click this link: Virginia Writes. Our other writing resources include the Library's Local Author Collection and the Handley Writer's Group, where you can write and share your work with others!
