Winter reading has begun at all branches of Handley Regional Library System for kids, teens, and families now through January 31, 2020. Pre-readers up to five years of age can earn online badges, stickers, and other prizes based on the number of books read. Readers 6 and up can also earn stickers and prizes based on how many minutes and hours read. Participants can track their reading logs online at www.handleyregional.org/wrc or through the app available on the webpage. An entertaining award ceremony along with certificate of completions will happen on February 1 at Bowman Library in Stephens City during the Groundhog Day Celebration. This year, the library system has the opportunity to win up to $50,000 in author visits and free books based on how many people participate, minutes/number of books read, and when people use the social media hashtag #winterread2020. More information is available at www.handleyregional.org/wrc.
“The Winter Reading Program for kids and teens is already off to a fantastic start,” says John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library System. “We’ve had a lot of people register before the program officially opened on January 1 and we continue to get daily participants at all 3 branches. Our desire is for kids and teens of all ages to participate, visit their local library, and experience everything we have to offer to foster lifelong learning and entertainment – from books, movies, digital games, and programs – all of which are free and open to the public. The library system continues to be a relevant, critical resource to the communities we serve, so come out and enjoy the fun at the library!”
