Teen Book Spotlight--Mythology Inspired Stories!!!

Our teen book spotlight this week is on books that feature books that have been inspired by different mythologies!!  I love learning about mythology with all of the different gods, goddesses, monsters, heroes, and myths and all of our titles this week would not be here without their inspiration. We have stories that have been inspired by Greek, East Asian, and even Aztec mythologies.  They are adventure and action packed as well as some mixed into humor and historical fiction--including one of my favorite reads of last year.  These books and more can be found by searching the catalog using the search tag #yalandofmyth as well as on Libby and Hoopla.  Check back next week for a new teen book spotlight and if you have any book suggestions, please let us know!!

Bull by David Elliott--A modern twist on the Theseus and Minotaur myth, told in verse.

Everneath by Brodi Ashton--Lured into the Everneath by an Everling named Cole, Nikki gets trapped in Cole's arms for 100 years while he feeds on her emotions. When the Feed finally ends, Nikki returns to her hometown to find that only six months have passed. Her disappearance hasn't gone unnoticed, however, and she must make excuses to her family, friends, and boyfriend to explain her absence. Even worse, Nikki soon realizes that she has only six months to say goodbye to those closest to her before the Everneath swallows her again – this time forever.

Lovely War by Julie Berry--The goddess Aphrodite is required to tell the story of four humans, Hazel, James, Aubrey, and Colette, or face judgment on Mount Olympus. Their story reveals that while war is a formidable opponent, it is no match for the power of love.

Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao--Beautiful eighteen-year-old Xifeng, raised by a cruel aunt who says the stars destined her to be Empress of Feng Lu, chooses to spurn the man who loves her and exploit the dark magic that can make her dream real.

Lore by Alexandra Bracken--Lore, the last in the line of Perseides, has left the world of her fellow Greek mortals and gods after her family was brutally murdered. Now living in New York City, Lore trains as a fighter and hides her family's powerful shield. But the Agon has arrived, a time when gods can be hunted and killed for their powers. Athena convinces Lore to join her in killing those responsible for her family's murder.

Summer of the Mariposas by Guadalupe Garcia McCall--When the five Garza sisters find the body of a dead man near the Rio Grande, they discover he is a native of Mexico and take it upon themselves to return his body to his family. As they venture forth, their party becomes the target of supernatural forces both benevolent and malevolent, causing minor obstacles that test their resolve and their commitment to their journey. Even as they contend with such creatures as a warlock and the vampiric chupacabra, their path is laid before them by the mysterious mariposas - butterflies - that make sure they never lose their way.
