Are you ready to read this week? We’re going to have some dinoriffic fun as we read some tales of dinosaurs!

Have you signed up for our summer reading program? You can read, log, and win with a new theme each week. Click on the badge and choose any three of the following challenges to earn this week’s badge and a raffle ticket! Once you earn it, the badge will show in color and be added to your growing list of earned badges! Plus, you will earn a virtual ticket you can then use to select the prize drawing you wish to enter.

  • Talking: Dinosaurs are a great way to discuss opposites. There were BIG ones and small ones. Fast dinosaurs and slow dinosaurs. For older preschoolers, there are many words you can use for big and small, fast or slow, short and tall, which can expand vocabulary. How about a gigantic or a tiny dinosaur? Or maybe the dinosaurs can accelerate and then decelerate?

  • Singing: What do dinosaurs do all day? Sing this song for some ideas! You can act it out and count the dinosaurs!

  • FIVE HUNGRY DINOSAURS
    Sung to: "5 Little Pumpkins"

Five hungry dinosaurs wading through a swamp.
The first one said, "I like to stomp."
The second one said, "My stomach is growling."
The third one said, "It's time to go prowling."
The fourth one said, "Let's look for some food."
The fifth one said, "I'm in a leafy mood."
Five hungry dinosaurs wading through a swamp.
They are very hungry. Chomp! Chomp! Chomp! you!

  • Reading: Check out and read any book from this week’s search tag: #talesofdinosaurs

Dino-Pokey
(To the tune of "The Hokey Pokey")

 You put your claws in,
 You take your claws out,
 You put your claws in,
And you scratch 'em all about.
 You do the dino pokey,
 And you turn yourself around.
 That's what it's all about!

Additional Verses:
Feet in,  feet out,  stomp them all about...
Teeth in,  teeth out,  chomp them all about...
Tail in,  tail out, wag it all about...

Dino Ditty, Ditty Dum Ditty Do
(To the Tune: “Do Wah Diddy Diddy”)

Here he comes just a stomping with his feet,
Singing “Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do.”
Searching all around for something good to eat,
Singing “Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do.”
He’s huge (he’s huge). He’s strong (he’s strong).
He’s huge, he’s strong, won’t be hungry very long.
Dino ditty, ditty dum ditty do…

Dinosaur, Dinosaur
(To the tune: "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear")

 Dinosaur, dinosaur, turn around
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch the ground
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, reach up high
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, wink one eye
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch your nose
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, touch your toes
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, slap your knees
 Dinosaur, dinosaur, sit down please

Read those books and earn those badges all week long and I’ll see you next week for a new theme.
