It's Showtime for Me!

Going Solo BooksYou're learning how important you are,
How important each person you see can be.
Discovering each one's specialty,
Is the most important learning.

~Mister Rogers from the song, "I'm Proud of You"

We've had a wonderful time exploring music and the arts as we celebrate "It's Showtime at Your Library!" This week we're turning the spotlight on YOU!

What makes you unique? What are your special talents? Come let us know when you visit storytimes this week.

You can check out books on our theme this week by typing in the tag: #goingsolo. Don't forget to log your books through our summer reading program so you can win some great prizes too.

Throughout the week, extend the love of learning through art and music. The library has some great books on fingerprint art to explore, including “Finger Print Monsters and Dragons” and “Ed Emberley's Fingerprint Drawing Book”. Check them out and create some of your own, one-of-a-kind art. You can also head over to The Spruce Crafts for a few more fingerprint art ideas, including flowers, butterflies, and more.

Young children are still building self awareness, an important developmental milestone. The following songs will encourage an understanding of self.

All of Me
With my eyes I see.
With my mouth I talk.
With my nose I smell.
With my feet I walk.
With my ears I hear.
With my lips I kiss.
With my arms I give.
A big hug like this!

Where is Thumbkin?
Where is Thumbkin?
Where is Thumbkin?
Here I am!
Here I am!

How are you today, sir?
Very well, I thank you.
Run away.
Run away.

(Continue with Pointer, Tall Man,
Ring Man, and Pinkie.)

Watch Me!
(Tune: Mulberry Bush)

I can do so many things,
Look at me, can you see?
I can do so many things,
I’d like to show you now.

I can dance and twirl around,
Look at me, can you see?
I can dance and twirl around,
I’d like to show you now.

I can clap and stomp my feet…
I can jump up high and low…
I can reach and touch the sky…
(Make up more movements)

Me Complete
I have ten little fingers and ten little toes
Two little arms and one little nose.
One little mouth and two little ears.
Two little eyes for smiles and tears.
One little head and two little feet.
One little chin and that’s me complete!
