Big Bugs Storytime!

Library Card Sign-up Month continues and we have a really BIG theme this week for you to give your library card a workout. Pull up that catalog search and type in the tag: #bigbugs for some great buggy book suggestions such as Old Black Fly by Jim Aylesworth, Bugs! by David Greenberg, and I Love Bugs! by Phillemon Sturges. You can place any of these books on hold and head over to pick them up when they’re available.

Don’t forget to check our calendar to see what Big Bug programs we’ll have online too!

To support early literacy skills, we have some opportunities for playing and singing with our Big Bug theme. Try some of these at home!

Five Little Ladybugs - Download your coloring sheet and count along!
(hold up fingers as you count down)

Five little ladybugs on our front door,
One flew to Mom and that left four.

Four little ladybugs, oh so wee,
One flew to Dad and that left three.

Three little ladybugs saying "howdy-do,"
One flew to Brother and that left two.

Two little ladybugs snoozing in the sun,
One flew to Sister and that left one.

One little ladybug alone on the door,
It flew to me, then there were no more.

The Ants Go Marching
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one,
The little one stops to suck his thumb,
And they all go marching down, to the ground, to get out of the rain.
(two, tie his shoe; three, climb a tree; four, shut the door; five, take a dive)

A Fly is on My Toe
Tune: “Farmer in the Dell”
A fly is on my toe,
A fly is on my toe,
Hi-ho, just watch me blow.
A fly is on my toe
(Other verses: A fly is on my nose, my head, my ear, my elbow, my knee, etc.)

Little Arabella Miller
Little Arabella Miller
Had a fuzzy caterpillar
(Tickle palm with two fingers)
First it crawled up on her mother
(Walk fingers up left arm)
Then upon her baby brother
(Walk fingers up right arm)
They said, "Arabella Miller!
(Walk fingers up over head)
Put away your caterpillar!"
(hide hands behind back)

Flutter, Flutter, Butterfly
Tune : “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”
Flutter, flutter butterfly,
Floating in the summer sky.
Floating by for all to see,
Floating by so merrily.
Flutter, flutter butterfly,
Floating in the summer sky.

Itsy-Bitsy Spider
The itsy-bitsy spider
Climbed up the water spout
Down came the rain
And washed the spider out
Out came the sun
And dried up all the rain
And the itsy-bitsy spider
Climbed up the spout again
