Program Description

Event Details

Did you know that Handley and Bowman both have free seed libraries that are stocked by the Northern Shenandoah Valley Master Gardener Association? Join us on April 15th at 11am in the Benham Gallery at Handley Library and learn how to grow your own vegetables and flowers by starting seeds indoors.

Attendees will learn the benefits and best practices for starting plants indoors from seeds from local master gardeners. We will learn about requirements for successful germination, different growing methods and mediums, light and temperature needs, overcoming common problems, hardening off seedlings for transplanting into the garden, and best practices to ensure seedlings successfully grow into healthy mature plants.

This workshop is designed for adult beginning gardeners or adult gardeners who are new to raising plants from seeds indoors. There will be a presentation and discussion of best practices and a demonstration. Participants will leave with containers of vegetables to raise in their home.   Space is limited to 20 participants. Registration recommended.
