Scope and Content: This collection is mainly comprised of transcripts of diaries kept by Hiram Fries from 1867 to 1889, incomplete, in Green Spring, Frederick County, VA. Also included are a map and news articles regarding the Fries family locating their farm.

Bibliography: Hiram Fries was born on January 3, 1840 and lived his entire life in the Green Spring, VA community. He was educated at Old Stone Church and attended church at Pleasant Valley. On November 3, 1864, Hiram Fries married Elizabeth Ann Fries (first cousin) who died at age 82 in 1926. They had four children. Hiram Fries died at age 64 in 1904 and was buried in the Old Stone Church Cemetery.
