All About Our Rockin' the Library Guests

On Wednesday, June 26, Handley Library invites you to Rockin’ the Library, an event all about our love of reading in partnership with the Shenandoah University Children’s Literature Conference. There are so many fun activities planned, including meeting famous authors and illustrators. Here’s a little bit about the creators you’ll be able to meet. 

 

Brian Floca 

Brian Floca is an author and illustrator who has won multiple awards for his books, including a Caldecott Medal, four Robert F. Sibert Honor awards for distinguished informational books, and a silver medal from the Society of Illustrators. His books have also been selected three times for the annual New York Times Best Illustrated Books list.

John Parra 

John Parra is an illustrator and author best known for his art illustrated, Latino themed, children’s picture books. He has received multiple awards, including three American Library Association’s Pura Belpré Honors, two Golden Kite Awards from The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and a 2023 Américas Award. His artwork has been displayed in numerous galleries, and he has also taught art at the Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, CA.

Sophie Blackall 

Sophie Blackall is an award-winning illustrator of over 50 books for children. She has won two Caldecott Medals, and she is the five-time recipient of The New York Times Best Illustrated Picture Book Award. She has also worked with UNICEF and Save the Children, UK on global health and literacy initiatives.

Doug Salati 

Doug Salati is an author and illustrator, and his work has received several awards, such as the Caldecott Medal and the Ezra Jack Keats Award. His second book, Lawrence in the Fall,  was an Ezra Jack Keats Illustrator Award Honoree, a Society of Illustrators Original Art Show selection and Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection.
